Mitral valve repair for ischemic mitral regurgitation.
Mitral valve repair for ischemic mitral valve regurgitation remains controversial. In moderate mitral regurgitation (MR), controversy exists whether revascularization alone will be adequate to restore native valve geometry or whether intervention on the valve (repair) should be performed concomitantly. When MR is severe, the need for valve intervention is not disputed. Rather, the controversy i...
متن کامل[Mitral valve repair for mitral regurgitation].
We analyzed the results of mitral valve repair in 81 consecutive patients with severe mitral regurgitation. Of these patients, 66.6% had myxomatous degeneration, 11% ischemic disease, 8% chordal rupture, 5% congenital disease, and 3.7% endocarditis. Repair could not be achieved in five patients, and valve replacement was necessary. Six died during surgery (mortality 7%). During follow-up (mean ...

background: this study was undertaken to compare the outcome in patients with moderate to severe ischemic mitral regurgitation (imr) undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (cabg) with either mitral valve repair or mitral valve replacement. methods: between march 2002 and february 2005, 49 consecutive patients (mean age: 62.84±8.42 years; mean euroscore: 10.03±3.12) with coronary artery dise...
متن کاملThe Role of Open Mitral Valve Repair or Replacement for Severe Mitral Stenosis or Regurgitation versus Catheter Based Therapies
INTRODUCTION The development of various catheter-based therapies for valvular heart disease has provided less invasive, durable treatment options for certain selected groups of patients particularly young patients with uncomplicated rheumatic mitral stenosis (1,2). In these patients, results have been similar to those obtained with closed mitral commissurotomy operation (3,4). However, in many ...
متن کاملCatheter-based or surgical repair of the highest risk secondary mitral regurgitation patients.
Surgical mitral valve repair (MVR) remains the standard of care for patients with severe valve incompetence with clear, proven benefit for patients with primary mitral regurgitation (MR). Secondary MR is a primary disease of the left ventricular (LV) myocardium. Up to 50% of patients develop secondary MR after an acute myocardial infarction (ischemic MR), with approximately 10% of these having ...
